“That’s it”- Jurgen Klopp offers update on return dates for Liverpool duo including Luis Diaz

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp offers update on possible return dates for Luis Diaz and Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that both Luis Diaz and Thiago Alcantara are training with the team but will miss the Chelsea game.

Diaz, who has been out due to a knee injury since October, returned to team training last week. Klopp made it clear that they will be patient with the Colombian and monitor him closely before thrusting him into the limelight.

Thiago, on the other hand, has been out with a hip issue since early February. Last week, it was reported that the Spaniard is seeing a specialist to eradicate the issue. Klopp confirmed that he is back in team training now, but won’t be available for the Chelsea game.

Here’s what the German said regarding this (h/t Liverpool FC website):

“No, he’s [Diaz] not available [to face Chelsea]. But he is in training, but he is not ready for this game. As much as we want him to be back, we still have to give him time.

“This week, I wouldn’t say Arsenal is completely out of the picture but it’s rather unlikely. But after that then Luis will be back.

“We had Thiago yesterday in training, in normal team training, which is good as well, but he’s not available for tomorrow of course, so we will see how he reacts. That’s it.”

Dissecting Klopp’s comments, it looks like Thiago will be good to go for the Arsenal game, while we may see a bench appearance for Diaz in that game.

Having these two available for the final 10 games of the season will be such a massive boost for everyone in the squad. They are not only good players but excellent characters to be around the squad.

Liverpool’s left-hand side has been a problem for a while now. Andrew Robertson’s form has been sketchy for a while now. It has been masked because we only tend to focus on the other side where Trent Alexander-Arnold is there.

But, if Thiago and Diaz come back on the left side, we could see a better version of Robertson. With the top four still not out of the equation despite a thumping defeat at Manchester City, the return of the injured duo could hand the much-needed boost to possibly push for winning the last 10 games of the season.
