Inter Milan reject the opportunity to sign Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita for free

According to FC Inter News (h/t Liverpool Echo), Inter Milan have turned down an opportunity to sign Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita, who will be a free agent this summer.

Keita’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of this season. He is set to leave the Reds to pursue his career somewhere else.

The Guinea international has been linked with a lot of European clubs, but Inter do not have him on their list of midfield reinforcements in the summer.

The 28-year-old’s time at Liverpool has been underwhelming, to say the least. Although he has shown glimpses of what he can do, injuries have ruptured his progress here.

If we look at the numbers, Keita has missed 84 games due to injuries since arriving in the summer of 2018. It averages up to 16 games missed per season.

That might be one of the reasons why Inter are sceptical about signing him, even on a free transfer. Once the Guinean leaves, it would be interesting to know how Liverpool replace him. It would be good if they sign someone who isn’t as injured as the 28-year-old.

We already have pulled out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham, which is a worry for the future as the club are not prepared to spend the big money on a player they wanted to sign for such a long time.

Keita leaving will open up a foreign slot, and the Reds have been linked with Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister of Brighton in the last few days. Inter’s Nicolo Barella has been strongly linked as well.
