Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talks about failed Jude Bellingham pursuit
The Athletic‘s recent report confirmed that Liverpool will cool off their interest in Jude Bellingham, who grew to become an ever-present on the Reds’ transfer radar in recent years. Ahead of Liverpool FC’s league visit to Elland Road, Jurgen Klopp spoke in his pre-match conference about Bellingham and the Reds’ not pursuing him anymore.
The links gained much more velocity because of Bellingham’s close bond with Liverpool stars Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold. It comes as a major blow that the Reds do not want to actively pursue the Dortmund star, mainly because of the high price tag he comes with.
Jurgen Klopp spoke about the Reds’ believed pursuit of Jude Bellingham and spoke about why the media talks about things the club cannot have theoretically. It all seems to be going downhill in terms of Bellingham joining Liverpool now.
Here is what Klopp said via ECHO:
“It has always been like this. It’s never changed. My answer now is not about Jude Bellingham. I never understand why we theoretically talk about things we can never have, like six players in summer for £100m (each)”
“You have to work with what you have. You wouldn’t say as a five-year-old at Christmas you want a Ferrari. Whatever we need and want we try absolutely everything to get it but there are moments when you have to accept it’s not possible and step aside and do different stuff”
What next for the Reds?
While it is certainly a major blow to the Reds, the responsibility now lies within the club’s decision-making authority to scout for alternatives who could offer whatever Jude would have. In any case, the demand for midfielders at Anfield will not go down until we get on board about three or four quality midfielders.
Klopp believes that Liverpool do not have the financial means to go ahead and pursue Bellingham and that is something that the owners need to take the blame for. The club, in terms of revenue, is one of the best-performing clubs in the world, and we are below the likes of Everton when it comes to spending money, and that needs to change sooner than later.
The fans already sit disappointed due to the current season and the state of affairs at the club. The Bellingham news is just rubbing salt in the wound at this stage. However, there is still just enough time for the Reds to seal a UCL spot, and try to bring in a few of their other midfield targets to the club in the summer.
Liverpool are linked with the likes of Mason Mount, Ryan Gravenberch and Matheus Nunes among others. There is still plenty of talent available to choose from, and it depends on what Jurgen Klopp wants from the Reds next season and beyond.

Jurgen Klopp and the rest of the backroom staff at Liverpool need to make sure they do a really good job during the summer transfer window if they want their players to compete for silverware in the upcoming season as well as later and also know that not getting Jude Bellingham on board is not the end of the world by any means.
