The Liverpool recruitment team warned the club about ageing squad two years ago
Sky Sports reports that the Liverpool recruitment team warned the club about the ageing of the squad during the summer of 2021.
They were not happy with the blanket contracts handed to players who have been working together for a number of years playing the highest intensity of football.
The notable one was handing a new deal to captain Jordan Henderson. Ironically, the Englishman’s form since that time has taken a massive dip. He was average last season and has been pretty poor this time around too.
If we look at it objectively, the recruitment team were right. The squad, especially in the midfield department, is ageing terribly from a footballing sense.
Not spending much in the 2021 and 2022 summer windows may have been the cause behind the underwhelming season we are witnessing.
As a result of this low, the Reds are in a situation where they can’t do with just one midfield addition. They must sign at least three midfielders in the summer.
That could be one of the main reasons why the club has pulled out of the transfer race to sign long-term target Jude Bellingham. They are now focused on not spending all the money on one player but rather spreading the money on three-four new signings.
Now, this is the consequence you face for being arrogant in the market in the last couple of years. The negligence shown by the owners when the team was at the top is baffling, to say the least.
Because of their pocket-tightness, Jurgen Klopp now has to start from scratch after building a gigantic building of success in the last four years.
