Chelsea are keen to retain the services of Levi Colwill amid interest from Liverpool
According to PA Sport (h/t The Metro), Chelsea are not looking to sell 20-year-old defender Levi Colwill amid interest from rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
Chelsea under new owner Todd Boehly have spent a huge amount of money on acquisition of players and hence need to sell players to balance the books according to Financial Fair Play regulations.
Hence, many speculated that Colwill, who is currently on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, would be deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge having already brought a similar profile in Benoit Badiashile.
However, the London club is aware of the potential that Colwill possesses and hence are reluctant to sell him, especially to a direct rival.
Having already seen how Marc Guehi and Fikoyo Timori have done since leaving Stamford Bridge, the new Chelsea board is acting cautious when it comes to Colwill.
This would put a dent in Liverpool’s hopes who have shown interest in the player and would have been waiting for an opportunity to strike if the player decided to move from Chelsea.
However, Colwill has two years left on his current deal and unless an extension is signed, there is still a possibility that the player can leave Chelsea providing us with a wonderful opportunity if it ever presents itself.
Colwill is one of the up-and-coming central defenders who is comfortable in possession and gives an added advantage being left-footed, providing a different dimension to the team. Even his current Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is full of praise for the player, only increasing the hype surrounding the defender.
“I know the quality of Levi Colwill.
Levi is a left-footer and it is an important quality for us because with Levi we can find different line passes, different solutions in the build-up, in the last 40 metres.”
It would be a shrewd signing for Liverpool if we are able to secure Colwill’s future at Anfield, who could potentially be Ibrahima Konate’s long-term partner in the future.

There is still uncertainty over the player’s future at Chelsea and it would only be clear in the summer transfer window when the London club would be selling some of their players to balance the books.
