Real Madrid to persist with Aurelien Tchouameni despite Liverpool links
Real Madrid have reportedly quashed rumours of a summer departure for Aurelien Tchouameni, who was once a Liverpool target (h/t ECHO). The French midfielder moved to the Santiago Bernabeu last June from AS Monaco for a fee in the region of £85m, despite interest from Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.
However, he has struggled to make an impact in his first season with the Spanish giants, leading to speculation of a move to Anfield this summer again. Los Blancos are hopeful that his struggles are simply down to the settling-in period that many players go through when transitioning to a new team, league, manager, and surroundings.
This news will come as a blow to Liverpool, who wanted the midfielder for next season as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season. Tchouameni was a top target for Jurgen Klopp, who was keen to add his energy and dynamism to Liverpool’s midfield.
However, it seems that Liverpool will have to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements. The club has been linked with several other players in recent weeks, including Mason Mount and Matheus Nunes, as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours.
Tchouameni setback for the Reds
Despite the setback of missing out on a top transfer target, the Reds have to look for alternatives and scout other young players as well who could have an impact on the Reds and help the club in their pursuit of more and more silverware.
As for Tchouameni, he will be looking to bounce back from his difficult first season with Real Madrid and prove himself as one of the top midfielders in Europe. The 23-year-old has already shown glimpses of his potential, and he will be hoping to build on that in the coming months.
Ultimately, the news that Real Madrid have no interest in letting the 23-year-old French midfielder leave will be a disappointment for Liverpool, but it is not a major setback.
The club has plenty of other options in the transfer market, and they will be looking to make the most of their resources to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours.
