“We really enjoyed it”- Liverpool star tells teammates what to replicate from their Leeds United display

Fabinho wants to keep the standard that was set by Liverpool vs Leeds in the coming games

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho wants

the team to keep the standard that was set against Leeds United for the remaining games of this season.

After smashing Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield in early March, the Reds lost their way with defeats at Bournemouth and Manchester City and draws against Chelsea and Arsenal.

So, the performance and the win over Leeds were important on Monday. It potentially gives them a platform to end this tumultuous season on a high.

Here’s what Fabinho said when asked whether the standards set at Elland Road needs to be kept for the upcoming games (h/t Liverpool FC website):

“Yes. I think in this moment of the season it’s really important to win the games. But I think the way we played against Leeds is something that we have to take and try to do in the next games as well.

“We really enjoyed it on the pitch [at Leeds], our fans enjoyed as well the way we played. So yes, we will try to get better, of course, and to keep playing good football with intensity, with really good reactions. That’s what we have to do.”

Monday’s victory has put us within six points of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur and nine behind Newcastle United, who occupy the last of the Champions League spots.

While Jurgen Klopp and his team cannot look too far ahead because we have had plenty of false dawns this season, the prospect of winning the remaining games and hoping it is enough to get us to fourth is there. The only issue is we do not look like a team that can win nine games in a row.

The best version of Liverpool under Klopp always concentrated on the next game. On Saturday, they face a struggling Nottingham Forest side at Anfield. While it looks like a straightforward fixture, we lost to Steve Cooper’s team at the City Ground in October.

A win on Saturday can generate the momentum needed for the games against West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur next Wednesday and Sunday respectively.

Let’s hope that what Fabinho is saying gets relayed to the players and they are ready to fight for every point till the end of this season.
