Former Manchester United star Louis Saha feels Mason Mount could be a good fit for Liverpool
Former Manchester United and Everton striker Louis Saha believes Mason Mount would be an ideal fit for Liverpool and the style of play under Jurgen Klopp.
The Chelsea midfielder is yet to sign a contract extension at Stamford Bridge. His current deal with the Blues expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt). He is among the multiple midfielders who see themselves linked with a move to the Reds, after Liverpool’s surprising decision to drop out of the race for Jude Bellingham.
Mount is one among the likes of Matheus Nunes, Ryan Gravenberch and Nicolo Barella and is probably the closest among all these names to join the Reds as per The Athletic‘s James Pearce. The England international has grown to become a star for Chelsea in midfield in recent seasons but has struggled at times this campaign.
Here is what former Manchester United and Everton star Louis Saha had to say about Mount fitting Liverpool to LordPing via ECHO:
”Mason Mount can fit in at any team including Liverpool and United, but I don’t think he’s had a great year at Chelsea and I’m not sure why he’d be linked more than he was before seeing as he was on fire last year,.”
How well does Mount fit in with the Reds?
Having said that, he also added that the links do not make the most sense to him given Mount’s sensational form with the Blues only last season. However, a lot has changed since including the dressing room size due to the new owner Todd Boehly spending left right and centre.
However, there is certainly no denying that the player is of utmost importance to Chelsea. In 35 appearances across all competitions this season, he has three goals and six assists. Very recently, he put in a solid shift against Real Madrid as a substitute in Chelsea’s 2-0 home loss in the UEFA Champions League Quarter-Finals.
As per football.london, Chelsea will demand a fee of about £70m to part ways with Mount. However, there stands a sense of growing confidence to negotiate a better deal given Chelsea’s FFP issues which could crop up next summer due to their excessive spending over the two windows this season.
Speaking of the 24-year-old fitting in with Jurgen Klopp’s style of play, his relentless work rates almost like a pressing machine, both offensively and defensively, fit the German’s plans like a glove to be absolutely honest.
