Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson Becker feels that the Reds have been the architects of their own problems at times in the current campaign.
The Merseyside outfit have struggled to remain consistent this season. After a few years of success under Jurgen Klopp, the German manager has not been able to get the best out of the team in the last few months.
Speaking to the media via Liverpool Echo, the Brazilian goalkeeper believes the players have often left a lot to be desired on the pitch. However, while the 30-year-old has acknowledged Liverpool’s issues, he thinks they have the ability to turn things around.
“Sometimes we have caused the problems that we have had on the pitch by not playing well, but at the same time we are the solution too, so it’s not as big a problem as it looks because we know what we can do and what we are capable of.
“We’re going to show that we can fight for great things still in a Liverpool shirt.”
In the 2021/22 campaign, Klopp almost took us all the way in every competition. We got our hands on the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. Unfortunately, the Reds lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid and endured a nail-biting finish on the final day of the Premier League.
But the Merseyside outfit have been unable to replicate similar exploits this time around. We have had a topsy-turvy season in the English top flight. The Anfield side also faced early exits in the cup competitions.
Liverpool are currently seventh in the league table. We are nine points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. However, with seven games to go, it seems a difficult task to get UCL football for the upcoming campaign.
While the Reds have had a tough time, Alisson has been impressive regardless. The Brazil international joined the Merseyside outfit in the summer of 2018 from AS Roma.
Since then, he has been a rock in between the sticks for us. Even with the Anfield side’s defence being all over the place this season, the shot-stopper has done well.
Alisson’s rallying call does not change the fact that we evidently need a squad overhaul in the summer. Hopefully, the Reds are able to get back to the top after sound investments in the coming months.
