Chelsea are planning a shock move for former Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane
According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), Chelsea are planning to make a shock move for former Liverpool star Sadio Mane, who is currently plying trade at Bayern Munich.
Bayern paid around £35m (with add-ons) to sign the Senegal international from Liverpool last summer.
But, this has been a move that hasn’t worked for both parties. Mane picked up an injury before the World Cup that kept him out of action until the turn of this calendar year.
A few weeks ago, the 31-year-old is suspended by the German club after it was revealed he had punched Leroy Sane after the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City.
He was not a part of the Bayern squad that drew 1-1 against Hoffenheim three days post that game. When he came on for Sane against City in the second leg of that quarter-final tie, there wasn’t much eye contact between him and the German.
There have been reports linking Mane with a move away from Munich only after one season there. The potential reunion with Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp looks unlikely.
Knowing Chelsea and their scattergun approach in the transfer market under the current ownership, we are not surprised to see go after a player whose peak may have passed him.
Moreover, having known how loyal Mane was while playing for Liverpool, we doubt that he would prefer a move to a club like Chelsea which has a direct rivalry with the Reds.

As Liverpool fans, we love Mane so much. Just hope that an underwhelming season at Bayern hasn’t downed his confidence a lot. It is because he is the type of player who thrives on being confident and getting the backing of the manager.
