Jurgen Klopp speaks highly of Diogo Jota after recent upturn in form
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp spoke highly of striker Diogo Jota after the recent upturn in the form of the Portugal international.
After not scoring a goal for around a year, Jota has scored a brace in each of the last two games. While the goals against Leeds United relieved the pressure, the ones against Nottingham Forest showed that he is back in touch ahead of the final stretch of this season.
The 26-year-old hasn’t had the easiest of years to be fair to him. He missed the first month of this season due to the hamstring injury he picked up before the pre-season started. He came back and played well, but got a serious calf injury that ruled him out of the World Cup.
So, it was understandable why he was struggling for form and rhythm before the floodgates opened last Monday. Here’s what Klopp said about him and his qualities (h/t Liverpool website):
“He is an exceptional player; since Diogo joined us he did exceptional stuff for us. Super-smart player, can play really different positions, has a few super-interesting skills for an offensive player.
“He is not the tallest but is an extreme threat in the air, timing is top, can finish with both feet, which is extremely helpful. Has the speed. That’s it.
“Diogo was now [out] this year obviously with a really bad injury, this season. Before that, little things here and there, so that kept him a little bit back, nothing else.”
We saw last season that when Jota starts scoring, he will keep on doing that for a consistent run of games. If he stays fit and starts games, we can expect goals and assists from him in abundance.
With seven must-win games for Liverpool to go, it is good to see the former Wolves man striking back to form. If he and Mohamed Salah keep on scoring, the Reds might win the remaining games and make an improbable late run for a top-four finish.

Jota has been an excellent signing for us. It is a shame that injuries have plagued his progress time and again. We hope that he stays fit and in rhythm to start the next season well and help us in making a fast start to our league campaign.
