Jurgen Klopp to speak to Fabio Carvalho before deciding on his Liverpool future
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will speak to Fabio Carvalho first before deciding on his future and making it public.
The 20-year-old has struggled for regular game time since moving from Fulham last summer. He has played a total of 632 minutes in all competitions for the Reds this season so far.
He has played five minutes of Premier League football since being hooked off in the away game against Nottingham Forest back on the 22nd of October.
Keeping all those things in mind, it was understandable why the journalist asked Klopp about the future of the player. Here’s what the German said (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“I would like to make all these decisions with the boys before we talk (publicly) about it.
“There is no decision in any direction yet.
“What I can say is that this week in training he was exceptional again. He’s really outstanding. So, yes, we will talk to each other and then we will see what we will do – what he wants, what I think, but there’s no decision yet.”
It looks like the boss may have a closer look at Carvalho in the pre-season before deciding what to do with him.
The 20-year-old is an attacking midfielder who does not suit the system Klopp deploys at Liverpool. The German rarely goes with the 4-2-3-1 formation, where the use of a player like Carvalho is paramount.
To replace Roberto Firmino in the false nine/number nine position, the club have already signed Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez within the last 12 months.
At such a young age, it might not be a bad idea for Carvalho to go on loan, preferably to a Premier League club where his performances can be directly correlated to the standard of the opponents he is facing.
The 20-year-old is a fantastic young player who is unfortunate not to get more game time here. As Klopp said, he is always good in training, meaning there has been no drop of guard from him.

If he is okay to bide his time for opportunities, Liverpool can keep him. But, a young player would always want to play more to gain experience, isn’t he? In that case, sending him out on loan makes sense.
