Rio Ferdinand feels Liverpool may sneak into the top four
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand does not feel Liverpool are out of the top four race and feels they may sneak into it by the end of this season.
After beating Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, the Reds are now nine points adrift of the fourth-placed Manchester United with seven games to play. Third-placed Newcastle United are on the same points as United.
So, Liverpool are hoping to win the remainder of their games and pray that one of Newcastle or Manchester United drops off in the business end of this campaign.
Here’s what Ferdinand said when asked about Liverpool’s win over Forest and their top four chances (h/t FIVE, h/t Liverpool Echo):
“Nottingham Forest put them under it. But Liverpool got through with it by hook or by crook. They could sneak into the top four, you know Liverpool.”
While the rampaging win over Leeds was enjoyable for us, the fighting display to beat a determined Forest side would have gained more confidence within the Liverpool squad.
The way Steve Cooper’s men were fighting for every ball and causing trouble with long throws, the Reds could have easily dropped points had the trend of this season continued.
But, thankfully, the team fought through it and kept coming back to score the eventual winning goal through Mohamed Salah.
All Liverpool have to do is keep winning their games to put consequential pressure on the two sides they are chasing. A couple of slip-ups from them and the Reds are right on their noses.
While all that sounds good and fancy, can Jurgen Klopp’s men remain consistent till the end of May? We have not seen them three league games in a row in one stretch this season.

All of a sudden asking to win nine in a row might be a hard ask, or has the return of injured players fuelled them? We would know some of that when they play West Ham United on Wednesday night.
