Jurgen Klopp reveals he had “talks” with Liverpool owner John Henry before the West Ham game
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he had a “talk” with club owner John Henry in London before the game against West Ham United.
Henry was in attendance in the London stadium when the Reds came from behind to beat the Hammers 2-1 on Wednesday and kept their slim top-four hopes alive.
Klopp mentions that he knew about the American coming over to the capital and clears that he already had a talk with him the night before the game.
Here’s what the German said (h/t Daily Mail):
‘We had talks already. We spoke last night in the hotel, we have already had a talk. I knew that he [Henry] was coming.”
In the press conference on Tuesday, Klopp talked about the search for a new sporting director going in the right direction. Did Henry come to finalise the procedure of this appointment, or was the transfer budget part of the discussion? We would never have the answer to that honestly.
After not spending much in the squad in the last few transfer windows, it is high time that the Liverpool owners back the manager financially to bring the players he wants to challenge for the biggest honours again.
One of the main areas to work on is the midfield. Following the pullout from the possible Jude Bellingham transfer due to the heavy cost involved, the club must do well in the window to get the players that are best suited to play the Klopp way.
For that to happen, significant spending needs to happen, irrespective of whether the team finishes in the top four this season or not. Champions League money cannot be the sole condition of the manager having enough budget to spend.
