“I’m reaping the rewards”- Liverpool superstar reacts after achieving Premier League assists milestone

Trent Alexander-Arnold reacts to reaching Premier League assists milestone for Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold reached a tally of 50 Premier League assists in Liverpool’s 6-1 Premier League win against Leeds United earlier this month.

He assisted twice in the game, notably setting up Darwin Nunez for the game’s sixth goal with a beautifully lobbed ball from midfield. He has since assisted one goal each in our league wins against Nottingham Forest and West Ham United.

Alexander-Arnold has been redeployed in a midfield role by Jurgen Klopp during games. He starts as a right-back but is seen playing in a more centrally advanced role in matches.

Speaking to the club’s official media, Alexander-Arnold gave his verdict on reaching this special milestone for the Reds.

“It’s not something I ever imagined doing or achieving. But I’m proud, very proud to be able to do that – and hopefully there’s many more to come in the future,” Alexander-Arnold said of the milestone.”

Asked if he has trained especially on his passing ability, the 24-year-old England international responded:

“It’s something I enjoyed growing up, I enjoyed passing the ball, set-pieces, corners, free-kicks – all of that was something I enjoyed doing when I was a kid. I always worked on it and now I guess I’m reaping the rewards.”

Alexander-Arnold’s new role is working pretty well but that doesn’t mean we should stick with it. We are better off signing several specialist central midfielders and restoring Alexander-Arnold to the right-back role.

It’s better we sign a box-to-box right-sided central midfielder who can help the Englishman in defence in the same way that the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum or Jordan Henderson did during their heyday.

That being said, Alexander-Arnold’s ability on the ball, especially when it comes to finding a teammate, should always be utilised as a weapon. Klopp already does that. According to PL’s official website

, only three defenders have more assists than Trent, with Andy Robertson (57) second on the list.
