Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp takes a dig at Manchester United

According to the Mirror, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has taken the opportunity to rub salt into Manchester United’s wounds ahead of the Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds are enjoying a very poor campaign and are likely to end the season with just the FA Community Shield to show for their efforts. Having found a semblance of consistency of late, Klopp and co will be keen to end the campaign on the front foot.

The German is well aware that the current campaign borders on unacceptable for a club of Liverpool’s stature. It did, however, have its moments as we defeated Bournemouth 9-0 and won 7-1 away at Rangers.

But then few results can trump the 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United at home. Winning with the scoreline in any game is excellent, never mind your biggest rivals. Klopp believes the result will live on despite the season as a whole lacking substance.

“So this season, if we don’t do something really special, will be remembered for the 7-0 against United.”

Despite having only an outside chance of making the top four, Klopp does not appear to have thrown in the towel just yet. With Man United wobbling, it would certainly be funny if we pip them to the Champions League spots in the final weeks of the season.

“I hope when people speak about it in a few years they will look back on it and [say], ‘that is the year we beat United 7-0’ and that they could say something nice on top of that. And after that we qualified still for whatever. That will be nice.”

Liverpool face Tottenham tonight in a must-win game for both teams. Hopefully, we will keep up the recent winning momentum and take the game by the scruff of the neck.

Regardless of what we go on to achieve in the future, the 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United will be talked about for years. Liverpool certainly offers their fans a glimpse of light even when the darkness is all around. We have had the Red Devils’ number in recent years and could rub further salt into their wounds should we pip them to a top-four spot.
