Liverpool and Manchester United pursuing ex-Barcelona defender Jean Clair-Todibo

Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United are pursuing a move for former Barcelona centre-back Jean Clair-Todibo, as per Get French Football News via the Mirror.

He could make a move to the Premier League this summer and a fee of £26.5million could be enough. Todibo came through Toulouse’s youth academy before getting his big move to Barcelona in January 2019.

It didn’t work out for him there. After a number of loan spells, he made the permanent switch to OGC Nice in the summer of 2021.

Liverpool currently have Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip as their first-team options but both Gomez and Matip have had a number of injury issues in recent seasons.

Todibo to LFC a good move?

But then, Todibo, 23, could want instant playing time given his age and the fact that he will need playing time to realise his potential. Newcastle could add him as an upgrade to their backline.

Manchester United, like us, have four first-team options in defence with Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez. It remains to be seen what criteria Todibo will consider if he considers a switch to England.

Right now, he is a regular starter for Nice and his career is in a good moment. He is yet to make his bow for France’s senior squad.

But if he keeps up his performance, he could soon win his first cap for Les Bleus. A wrong transfer can ruin a player’s career and the 23-year-old would be aware of that.
