Virgil van Dijk targeting a strong end to the season with Liverpool

According to The Metro, Liverpool superstar Virgil van Dijk remains confident that the club can end their 2022/23 season on a high.

His comments come ahead of the crunch clash at Anfield against Tottenham Hotspur. Both teams harbour hopes of breaking into the top four and the winner will get to keep their chances alive.

Jurgen Klopp’s tactical shift has improved Liverpool’s fortunes in recent weeks and they are currently on a three-game winning streak in the Premier League. Optimism is improving and we could be in for a wild few weeks as the season draws to a close.

Van Dijk has taken a philosophical view of our season, taking the losses with the wins. He is aware that reverses are a part of life and it is imperative that the players keep fighting.

“Football is like everything in life; it has its up and downs, you win, you lose, you have setbacks and pain, and you come back fighting.”

The only way is forward and Van Dijk is keen to focus on what can be done rather than worry about what has transpired. Hopefully, we can do the job on the field and prove him right.

“Whatever happens these next few weeks will be very important for us and there is still plenty to play for in the six matches remaining for Liverpool.”

Van Dijk has failed to hit his usual heights this season and looks a shadow of the colossus he once was. He too has been at fault for some of our struggles and will cover his side of the defence better. Hopefully, we will be back to our best sooner rather than later.

Liverpool have held the upper hand over Tottenham in recent years and will hope to see the run continue on the night. Three points on the night will not just boost our chances of a top-four finish but also adversely impact a direct rival. Two birds with one stone altogether.
