Jurgen Klopp urges Liverpool fans to not sing his chant until after the game

After the Tottenham Hotspur game, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp asked the fans to not sing his chant until after the game is over.

When the Reds went 3-0 up inside 20 minutes against Spurs, the fans started singing the German’s chant which goes by ‘I am so glad that Jurgen is a Red’.

The players took their foot off the gas following that and allowed the North London opponents to stage a comeback and eventually equalise in the second half stoppage time. Their joy didn’t last long as Diogo Jota scored a minute later to win a crazy game of football.

Here’s what Klopp said about wanting his song to be sung after the final whistle (h/t Mirror):

“I have to say now, I love all of them but my song, don’t sing it! If you want to sing it, sing it after the game in the bars, wherever. Because it is always like it is closing the game. We are 3-0 up and I hear ‘I’m so glad that Jurgen is a Red’. It is not over!

“It would be really nice if you could leave it for later and now it’s like 4-3, everyone is happy and we had in the final part of the game, the atmosphere was like an explosion that no one will forget that game ever. Let’s keep going.”

Although it is okay to communicate with the fans about what the boss wants, that cannot be even a minuscule reason as to why the Liverpool players started dropping their professionalism after scoring the third goal. Andrew Robertson epitomised that behaviour with unnecessary passing and heavy touches to allow the opponents to get in behind.

In whichever way we won, it is now four league wins in a row for Klopp’s team. While the surge towards the top four is almost over, the momentum gained this late in the season would help them in starting the next season on the right note.

What this game showed is that the team needs surgery in the midfield department this summer. We all knew that, but it is always good to get a pictorial representation of it so that everyone knows the investment is needed.
