Curtis Jones believes the newly found spirit was key behind the Tottenham win
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones believes the newly found spirit and belief were the key behind their win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Reds beat the North London opponents 4-3 in a Premier League classic that went right down to the wire. Jurgen Klopp’s men took a three-goal lead inside 20 minutes, only for that lead to be wiped out with goals from Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Richarlison.
The latter scored in the 93rd minute and celebrated like a mad one in front of the away fans while shushing the home side. All of that effort wasn’t enough when Lucas Moura handed Diogo Jota a chance to score the ultimate game-winner 90 seconds later.
Here’s what Jones said about the game and the growing belief of the Liverpool team (h/t Liverpool website):
“A win’s a win and we did it and that’s the important thing. It ended up being a tough game. We were cruising and were 3-0 up but we let them back in, but in this team at the minute the spirit is high and the confidence is up, of course.”
Out of all the good things that are happening with the Reds at the minute, Jones’ form has been a real positive after his slow start to the season.
Sunday was the youngster’s sixth start in a row and he is meriting that all day long. He scored the opening goal of the game as well and looked very good for the time he was on the field.
If the 22-year-old continues this form in the remaining games and has a good pre-season, he would be in a shout to play a lot more games next season. It would help Klopp in managing his minutes because it looks like Liverpool will be in some sort of European competition next time around, if not the Champions League.

What that streaky yet delightful win showed us is that this team needs surgery of some sort in the summer. So, although Klopp looked over the moon after the full-time whistle, and rightly so, he would have breathed a huge sigh of relief to come away with three points.
