Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo admits he is ready wherever to help the team secure UEFA Champions League spot
Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, while speaking post the win over Fulham (h/t Liverpool Echo) admits that he has no issues playing in different positions and is ready to help the team in any way possible as they look to secure UEFA Champions League qualification.
Gakpo, signed from PSV Eindhoven for a fee of £37m in the January transfer window is turning out to be a good piece of business from Liverpool.
The Dutch International took some time to settle into the rhythm of the Premier League and has since given some impressive performances which were key behind our resurgent run.
He has managed to score 6 goals and provided 3 assists till now and has allowed Jurgen Klopp to bring a different quality out of the team.
So far Gakpo has played off the left, as the striker and also recently in midfield and the player admits that he is ready to play wherever needed to help Liverpool secure a top-four finish.
“I enjoy playing for sure and I’m looking where I can help the team the most. Sometimes that’s a little bit deeper in the midfield and sometimes it’s in the striker’s position. I just enjoy playing with my teammates, and especially when you win it is way more fun!”
Nobody a few weeks back would have thought of a top-four finish and good wins on the run have brought us right back into the top-four contention.
One point off Manchester United and three points off Newcastle United albeit with a game played more, has brought back a sense of optimism to the fans. Gakpo has been a vital part of this.
The Dutch forward has been very good at linking up play and seems like the ideal Roberto Firmino replacement in the long run. This is the player we were expecting when we signed him from PSV Eindhoven in January.

It was important for him to have this run of form before the end of the season so he can head into the next campaign with confidence. He is still just 24 and has time before he hits his peak. Klopp has a wonderful player on his hands whose quality doesn’t seem to get compromised no matter where he plays in attack.
