Liverpool request Premier League not to start their season with Anfield fixture

Liverpool ask Premier League to stage their first game of next season away from Anfield

According to the Mirror, Liverpool have asked the Premier League to stage their first league game of next season away from Anfield.

The reason stated is that the Anfield Road Stand needs additional time to get completed. The £80m construction, which is set to increase the stadium’s capacity by 7000, started in September 2021.

The stand being open for games since that time has meant that the work completion is taking more than usual. The Reds have only one home game left this season, against Aston Villa on May 20th.

The work will commence as soon as that game is finished, which includes removing the old roof and completing the construction, which is reported to be on time and within budget.

Getting Anfield’s capacity up to 61000 would be a fantastic sight for us Liverpool supporters. The atmosphere people can create in that stadium is known to us already. The additional capacity will only help in aggravating that cauldron-like situation.

The Reds under Jurgen Klopp have been exceptional at home. Even during this season, when things have not been smooth, they have collected 43 points from 18 home league games. That points total is only second to Manchester City.

Having the first game of next season away from home won’t be the end of the world, isn’t it? We hope that the construction is finished by that time and the stadium with new capacity is available for all of us to see from the second game week onwards.

More Liverpool News:

The other hope is the final home game of this season, against Villa, ends on a positive note for Liverpool. They anyway have to win all of their encounters to keep the top four hopes alive till the final match.
