Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp handed two-game touchline suspension

As confirmed by reliable journalist Paul Joyce on Twitter, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been awarded a two-game suspension following his comments against referee Paul Tierney in the game vs Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds boss’s touchline ban will come into immediate effect meaning he should miss the weekend’s final game of the season at Anfield. Given that it is Roberto Firmino and James Milner’s final game at home in red, the ban is unlikely to be met with enthusiasm by fans.

While he will serve a touchline ban for one game effective immediately, the second one will only come into effect toward the end of the 2023/24 football season. Clearly, the authorities have the same logical awareness as the referees involved in the game.

Klopp will also furnish a fine of £75,000 for his comments. He will return to the dugout for our final game of the campaign away to Southampton at St Mary’s.

FA spokesperson Wembley Beaks went on to add that Klopp’s suspended sentence for the second game will come into effect should he commit any further offence against FA Rule E3. The particular rule deals with issues where the language used is considered abusive and/or insulting towards a Match Official.

“The second is suspended until the end of the 2023/24 season on the condition that he does not commit any further breaches of FA Rule E3 in the meantime.”

Klopp was livid with referee Paul Tierney following the 4-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur and made his feelings clear in the post-match interview. While the PGMOL

reviewed the audio and found nothing wrong, we have our doubts given that the said clip was never made public. More so, Tierney has made several questionable calls against Liverpool in the past earning the German’s ire.

Klopp had earlier admitted that he expected to be punished for his antics and that has now happened. In many ways, it is a rather meek punishment with the brunt of the judgement being a financial penalty.

With Klopp now unavailable against Aston Villa, Pepijn Ljinders will be expected to be on the touchline. It is a must-win game for the Reds as they strive to finish in the top four.
