According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t The Metro
), Bayern Munich have no intention of parting ways with star midfielder Joshua Kimmich amidst interest from Premier League giants Liverpool. The 28-year-old is among the finest midfielders of his generation and is a key part of Die Roten’s plans for the future. He continues to be a regular under new manager Thomas Tuchel and is likely to stay put at the club for years to come.
Having come through the ranks at VfB Stuttgart and RB Leipzig, Kimmich moved to the Allianz Arena in 2015. He has since established himself as a first XI star and has made 345 appearances
for the club, scoring 40 goals and assisting 94 more.Considered untouchable, Kimmich is arguably the first name on Bayern’s team sheet. An excellent passer who can read the game well, his attributes have attracted attention from not just Liverpool but also Arsenal and Barcelona.
Kimmich has thrived in a double pivot and is an able shielder of the defence. More so his ability to win the ball back and rotate possession effectively would have made him an ideal fit for the Liverpool system.
Unfortunately we will now have to look elsewhere as we seek midfield reinforcements. While Bayern are expected to sign a new midfielder in the summer, it is unlikely to impact Kimmich’s role in the squad.
In fact, he has little reason to quit the Allianz Arena. It would, in fact, have been a miracle had we been able to tempt him to Anfield with UEFA Champions League football far from guaranteed for next season.
It can be argued that a move for Kimmich was a non-starter from the beginning itself. We are better off seeking realistic targets who can come in and make an instant impact at Anfield.
