David Ornstein believes Liverpool are in the midst of a ferocious battle for Chelsea ace Mason Mount
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE Youtube Channel, reliable journalist David Ornstein has revealed that Liverpool are battling several odds in their effort to land Chelsea star Mason Mount.
The Reds are in the market for midfielders and the English international is among those on their radar. Mount has just over a year to go on his current Chelsea contract and is yet to pen an extension.
The likes of Manchester City and Manchester United among others are also keen on the 24-year-old who could be moved on should he fail to commit his future in west London. While Liverpool are also in the fray, they are unlikely to be handed a straightforward path to landing the player.
Ornstein admitted that Liverpool are very interested and have already made efforts to land Mount. As of yet, no agreement has been reached as we head into the final few weeks of the 2022-23 season.
“Mason Mount is a player that Liverpool have definitely made attempts to sign.”
The English international is a bundle of energy in central midfield and is adept at pushing forward and making excellent through balls. This should improve the service given to what is a formidable Liverpool front line.
Apart from the competition, Liverpool also faces another challenge given the imminent arrival of Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea’s boss. The Argentine boss appears keen to retain Mount and it remains to be seen if he can sway the player’s mind.
“That would be a ferocious contest, not only about whether he might leave but also whether he could ultimately decide to stay and Chelsea finally come to an agreement with him.”
With summer fast approaching, the onus is now on the player and Chelsea to make up their mind. Hopefully, we will be ready to pounce should an opportunity present itself.

While Mount will undoubtedly be an excellent addition, he will also add to our homegrown quota. The Chelsea ace’s development has fallen off the tracks this season and a move to Anfield could prove to be the impetus to his reigniting his career.
