Real Madrid eye Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino for free

Spanish giants Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino on a free transfer ahead of next summer, according to Marca via Fichajes.

The Brazil international is in the final few months of his current contract with the Reds. He will leave the Anfield side in the upcoming transfer window after eight fruitful years in Merseyside.

To that end, the 31-year-old is on the radar of Los Blancos. The La Liga outfit are looking to add depth to their forward line. As a result, the former Hoffenheim attacker is a name on the table for the Santiago Bernabeu side.

Frimino signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2015. Since then, the Brazilian has been a key player in Jurgen Klopp’s plans, who has taken the Merseyside outfit back to the summit over the last few years.

The versatile forward has been pivotal to the way the German head coach has wanted the team to play. With Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah out wide, the 31-year-old was the one tasked with tracking back and linking the midfield with the attack.

In that regard, Firmino has done his job admirably. However, in recent months, the Brazilian has not been the first choice in the starting lineup. With the arrival of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo over the last two transfer windows, Klopp has an abundance of talent at his disposal.

Up front, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz can also be called upon. Thus, while the 31-year-old has been an incredible servant for the Reds, it looks like a departure is best for both parties.

Madrid have Karim Benzema as their only established number nine. However, the French national is not getting any younger. Mariano Diaz has been unreliable as a backup for the 35-year-old.

Firmino still has a lot of football left in him. However, it remains to be seen whether Los Blancos will move to acquire the Brazilian’s services in the coming months.
