Brighton CEO Paul Barber gave very little away when asked about the future of Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister

Brighton and Hove Albion CEO Paul Barber did not give much away when asked about the future of Alexis Mac Allister, who is linked with Liverpool.

The 2022 World Cup winner has been strongly attached to a possible move to Anfield early in the summer window. The latest from transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano is that the Reds are close to agreeing personal terms with the player and the deal may get completed soon.

Mac Allister has had an excellent season for the Seagulls playing in different midfield positions. He has got 10 goals and two assists in 33 league appearances.

Talking about his future, here’s what Barber said (h/t Talksport, via Liverpool Echo):

“I saw him down on the pitch looking very happy and obviously we want him to be here next season.

“Obviously we know there’s going to be a lot of clubs, not just in this country, around Europe and around the world, that are going to be wanting him to play for them. But, at the moment he’s wearing blue and white stripes and I’m delighted about that.

“If I lost sleep over every report that I read about one of our players doing that, then I wouldn’t be sleeping very much at all. At the moment, he’s focused on doing what he can for us during his final two games.”

Although Barber did not give much away, it also feels that he is not blocking out any potential move for Mac Allister in the coming days or weeks.

The 24-year-old is a technically strong player who can pass the ball with great accuracy, can carry it forward from midfield, reads the game well to help the team recover possession, and adds goals and assists from midfield.

The Argentine has the tools to be an ideal Jurgen Klopp player at Liverpool. On the left-hand side of the midfield, he can form a relationship with winger Luis Diaz and the onrushing fullback Andrew Robertson or Kostas Tsimikas.

The hope should be that the deal to sign Mac Allister gets completed as soon as the season ends. In that way, Liverpool can potentially avoid stern competition from some of the top clubs in Europe.

Moreover, getting the 24-year-old way before the pre-season would help in gelling and then understanding the tactical side of the game during an expectedly tough pre-season for all the players.
