Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson is being linked with a move to Real Madrid
As per Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Real Madrid are keen on signing star Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson in the summer transfer window.
Although it sounds like a weird link, one can understand why Carlo Ancelotti’s men are looking at signing a left-back before the start of next season.
Ancelotti has played midfielder Eduardo Camavinga at left-back in many key games. Nacho Fernandez has been used there at times. A natural player in that position would be helpful to them.
But, despite the links from the Spanish sources, it seems unlikely that they would sign Robertson this summer.
The Scotsman turned 29 in March and has shown signs of a dip in performance levels throughout the course of this season. His contract at Liverpool runs until the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt). So, the Reds must be in no hurry to let him go.
With the change in system from Jurgen Klopp, there might be a situation where we see Robertson more like a left-sided centre-back to help the two defenders as Trent Alexander-Arnold tucks into the midfield.
Kostas Tsimikas is a decent backup option for that position but hasn’t been consistent enough to overtake Robertson.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will add a defender or two in the summer window. Doing that may help them in rotating players like Robertson who is slowly dipping after five years of constant running up and down the field at a high pace without much rest.
However, to reiterate the above point, in no case do we think that the 29-year-old would be sold to Real Madrid in the summer.

That also should not stop the Reds from looking at defenders or wide centre-backs who can bolster the squad with fresh legs and quality.
