Chelsea manager Frank Lampard issues ‘unsure’ Mason Mount update amid Liverpool links
Chelsea’s interim manager Frank Lampard acknowledged his uncertainty regarding Mason Mount and his future as the midfielder remains linked with a potential departure from Chelsea to Liverpool among other clubs.
A number of clubs, including the pair of Manchester clubs, Arsenal and obviously, Liverpool stand linked with a move for the 24-year-old midfielder whose current deal at Stamford Bridge expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt).
Mason Mount seems like a player, who could solve Liverpool’s midfield problems, at least from a tactical perspective. A lot of other factors obviously would matter, but strategically, he could prove to stand as the Reds’ best bet, in central midfield.
Here is what Lampard had to say via Liverpool ECHO on Mount’s future:
“I think it is a difficult situation,”
“I think with Mason particularly, as an individual, I don’t know what the solution is going to be because it’s a club and Mason issue,”
“I don’t know exactly where Mason is at, personally. He’s got a year left on his contract. I know he’s held in high regard at the club and I know the club are doing what they can to make him stay.”
Does Mount stay at the Blues?
A young Premier League-proven midfielder who has a Champions League trophy as well, not many come with the CV of Mount. For Chelsea across all competitions, he has 33 goals and 37 assists, and is just short of 200 appearances, at 195.
However, the Reds should vary of the interest of other Premier League clubs, possibly better suited to get Mount on board due to the UCL factor. The trio of Arsenal, Manchester City, and United, all saw themselves through to Europe’s premier club competition leaving behind the Reds.
And giving respect to that stand, Liverpool should accelerate any talks of bringing Mount to Anfield before their rivals get into the race and make it difficult for Jurgen Klopp and Co. to progress.
We have seen it happening with Aurlien Tchouameni last summer, and possibly Jude Bellingham this time around and it is rather wise to make sure that we are leading in the race to get Mount on board.
