“If we brought Mac Allister”- Jamie Carragher names two ideal midfield signings for Liverpool

Jamie Carragher names two ideal signings for Liverpool this summer

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has voiced his strong endorsement for Liverpool to pursue the signings of both Alexis Mac Allister and Mason Mount and also a defensive midfielder during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Carra shared his thoughts in an exclusive conversation with The Anfield Wrap, expressing his enthusiasm for the potential revamping of Liverpool’s midfield. Here is what Liverpool’s record appearance holder had to say on the same:

“If we brought Mac Allister and Mount in I’d be delighted with that. I definitely want us to bring a defensive midfield player in, as well, because Mount and Mac Allister are more offensive midfield players. I don’t think that our problem is going forward, our problem is defensively.”

Carragher emphasized the importance of addressing the defensive aspect of Liverpool’s engine room while also bolstering their attacking options with the additions of Mac Allister and Mount.

He highlighted the need for a defensive midfield player to provide stability and protection to the backline, considering that Mount and Mac Allister lean more towards offensive contributions.

While Liverpool’s attacking prowess is widely acknowledged, Carragher stressed that the team’s defensive solidity has been a cause for concern and more so, this season. By adding a defensive-minded midfielder alongside the offensive talents of Mount and Mac Allister, Liverpool could achieve a more balanced and formidable midfield setup.

The recommendation to bring in Mac Allister and Mount reflects Carragher’s belief that Liverpool’s attacking capabilities are already strong. Shoring up the defensive aspect of the team is to ensure better protection for the backline and overall defensive stability.

As a former Liverpool defender himself, he is acutely aware of the defensive challenges the team has faced and believes that addressing them is obviously crucial to achieving sustained success. We actually need someone to give Fabinho a competition for a place in the starting XI.
