Journalist suggests why Liverpool FC’s move for Jude Bellingham broke down
While Alexis Mac Allister’s name stands recently linked with Liverpool, it is Borussia Dortmund and England star Jude Bellingham who has captured the attention of most supporters.
However, any hopes of Jude Bellingham donning the famous Liverpool jersey now seem to be fading away, with Real Madrid emerging as the player’s most likely destination.
German journalist Christian Falk has shed light on the situation, suggesting that agent fees involved in a potential agreement have deterred Liverpool from pursuing the talented midfielder. In his column for CaughtOffside, Falk explained the situation.
Here is what Falk had to say:
“I heard his father’s demands were the decisive point. Of course, the overall package mattered. If we were talking about just the salary and transfer fee, a Liverpool move may have been possible.”
“However, a salary of €20m [£17.3m] plus a transfer fee, which Dortmund have set at €150m [£130m], plus add-ons and then some side money for Mark Bellingham and the agent would be impossible for Liverpool. I heard they said it was crazy and they don’t do such crazy things.”
What next for the Reds if not Jude?
Liverpool’s decision to step away from the potential transfer signals their commitment to maintaining a sensible approach in the transfer market. But speaking on behalf of the fans, it would have been great to see a player like Bellingham join the Reds.
While Bellingham’s undeniable talent makes him an attractive prospect for many clubs, the financial demands associated with his acquisition have proven to be a stumbling block for the Reds.
As Liverpool bows out of the race to secure Bellingham’s signature, Real Madrid have obviously emerged as the frontrunner in the pursuit of the young midfielder. The Spanish giants are known for their willingness to invest heavily in top talents, and Bellingham’s skill set certainly aligns perfectly with their ambitions.
While it may be disappointing for Liverpool fans to see Bellingham slip through their fingers, it is important to trust in the club’s decision-making process and their commitment to sustainable financial practices.
Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team will undoubtedly continue their search for players who can contribute to the team’s success on and off the field. The likes of Mason Mount and Alexis Mac Allister continue to see themselves linked with a move to the Reds, and hopefully, they come through to Anfield.
