Liverpool could sell underused 24-year-old star for £25m

Liverpool could part ways with Caoimhin Kelleher for £25m

Liverpool could entertain offers of £25 million or more for goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher this summer, with the player struggling to get meaningul playing time under Jurgen Klopp.

This is as per a report from The Athletic via Liverpool ECHO. Kelleher is deemed the club’s “most valuable asset” in terms of potential player sales, with several clubs expressing interest in the Irish shot-stopper, including Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton, and Brentford.

Despite making just 20 senior appearances for Liverpool since joining the club’s youth setup in 2019, Caoimhin Kelleher

has left a lasting impression whenever he has filled in for Alisson in cup competitions. His standout performances were pivotal in the Reds’ Carabao Cup triumph in 2022.

The 24-year-old has shown great promise and has consistently proven his ability to rise to the occasion. Kelleher, who has come up through the ranks at Anfield, is eager for more regular playing time and the opportunity to become a first-choice goalkeeper at another club.

What next for Kelleher?

He has obviously showcased his talent and potential on the biggest of stages. And now, he stands ready to take on a larger role and establish himself as a prominent figure between the sticks elsewhere. However, it is tough to see Caoimh replace Alisson for the Reds, as the Brazilian is certainly the best in the world.

While it may be difficult to see such a promising talent leave, Liverpool recognizes the importance of providing opportunities for players to flourish in their careers. But from a strategic perspective, it is important for the Reds to not let him leave.

Liverpool, on the other hand, will remain focused on identifying suitable replacements for Kelleher in case he leaves, ensuring that they maintain a strong goalkeeping department.

The club’s transfer strategy will surely prioritize finding a capable backup for Alisson, who has been an integral part of Liverpool’s success in recent years.

Hopefully, Kelleher sees the positives of staying put at the Reds and decides against moving from Liverpool this summer. His contract at the club expires in 2026 (Transfermarkt).
