Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says lack of UCL football hurts

Jurgen Klopp has openly acknowledged the significant blow that not qualifying for the Champions League next season represents for the team and the high standards he has set at Liverpool during his tenure here.

It marks the first time in a full season under Jurgen Klopp that the Reds have failed to secure Champions League football. As they prepare for the Europa League competition following a challenging season, the manager would remain determined to see a marked improvement in the upcoming campaign.

Expressing his disappointment, Klopp emphasised the magnitude of not qualifying for the prestigious Champions League tournament, particularly for a club of Liverpool’s stature.

Here is what the former Dortmund manager had to say via ECHO:

“Again we are really, really not happy about it. And for a club like us, it is massive not to qualify for the Champions League, I have to say. But in the next few years, we will see how many teams are playing for that now and have the fight to be in it who will not be in it.”

UEL reality for Liverpool and Klopp

The gaffer recognizes that the competition for Champions League qualification has become increasingly fierce, with numerous teams vying for the coveted spots. Klopp anticipates a tough fight in the coming years to secure a place in the tournament.

While the absence of Champions League football is a significant setback, Klopp sees it as an opportunity for Liverpool to refocus, strengthen, and come back stronger. The team will now shift their focus to the Europa League, certainly aiming to make a mark and compete at the highest level in that competition.

If memories serve you well, you’d remember that the UEL is the only trophy Klopp is yet to win at Liverpool. Ticking this box would mean that the Reds have won each and every competition that they have featured in under the German tactician.

Klopp’s words obviously resonate with the belief that Liverpool will bounce back, as they have done in the past, and reclaim their status as a team that strikes fear into their opponents.
