Leighton Clarkson to take a break before deciding where he wants to play football next

As per Daily Record, young Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson, who spent this season on loan at Scottish club Aberdeen, will take some time before deciding on his future.

It is revealed that Aberdeen have a broad agreement to sign Clarkson from Liverpool on a permanent deal this summer. But, their boss Barry Robson faces an anxious wait as the player is yet to agree on personal terms.

While the 21-year-old is taking a break before deciding on his future, Reading are interested in signing him. A number of English Championship clubs are keeping him on their radar as well.

Clarkson had an excellent season with Aberdeen, scoring six goals and assisting nine while playing either as an attacking or central midfielder. He played a key part in the Dons finishing third in the Scottish league and securing European football for next season.

Irrespective of what the England U20 international decides, the chances of playing first-team football at Liverpool seem bleak.

It would be better for him if the decision is made quickly. If it is going back to Aberdeen, the integration won’t be tough having already spent a season there.

From a financial viewpoint, Liverpool may get some transfer fee through this sale that can be used to make important signings in the midfield and defensive department in the coming weeks.

The Reds have confirmed the appointment of Jorg Schmadtke as the sporting director on a short-term deal. The hope is that he and Jurgen Klopp find a way to make this transfer window a successful one so that the team is set to challenge for the major trophies next season.
