Manchester City to challenge Liverpool for the signature of Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch

According to the Mirror, Manchester City will challenge Liverpool to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch if they fail to get Jude Bellingham.

City want to sign Bellingham this summer, but the England international seems to be heading towards Real Madrid. Liverpool already pulled out of the transfer race to get the Borussia Dortmund star.

Last month, it was revealed that the Reds have held talks with Gravenberch’s agent and his father to discuss the possibilities of a deal this summer. He is a highly-rated player despite not playing much this season at Bayern since moving from Ajax 12 months ago.

If we look at the numbers, the Dutch international has made 33 appearances in all competitions but has been on the field for only 937 minutes (Transfermarkt).

The 21-year-old is a versatile midfielder who can either play in a double pivot midfield, as a lone defensive midfielder or as one of the attacking numbers. He is technically very good and the height allows him to be great in aerial duels in both boxes.

Everyone knows that Liverpool must sign multiple midfielders in the summer window to rekindle the most important department of the squad.

They are close to signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hove Albion, but he fills only one of the many holes in central and defensive midfield.

They must push to sign Gravenberch because the Dutchman can offer flexibility in position and technical quality. Aerial strength would be key in the Premier League as well.

The worry should be the potential competition from City though. They have unlimited money, resources and Champions League football to attract the player. Can Jurgen Klopp ring some magic and bring him to Anfield? We hope so.
