Simon Jordan feels Brighton would be disappointed that Liverpool signed Alexis Mac Allister for a market rate price
Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan claims that Liverpool have signed Alexis Mac Allister for a fee lower than the market rate.
Jordan also feels that Brighton and Hove Albion would be disappointed to let go of the Argentine international for a fee as low as that. They tied him to a new deal just a couple of months before the 2022 FIFA World Cup but have still seen him leave on a fee that can be considered a bargain for the Reds.
Earlier in the day, Liverpool announced the signing of the 24-year-old for a fee that is believed to be around £35m. Considering how inflated the modern-day football market is, this is a bargain fee. In all honesty, they couldn’t have possibly imagined how Mac Allister would take off after the event in Qatar, where he played in the final and won the tournament.
Here’s what Jordan said when asked about the Reds signing Mac Allister (h/t Talksport, via Liverpool Echo):
“I don’t think Brighton have particularly tied him up have they. What did they achieve (by getting him to sign a new deal)?
“You’ve got a World Cup winner coming back. They tied him up to be able to give him to Liverpool at a (fee) properly below market value. I imagine (Brighton) will be a little bit disappointed with the situation.”
The transfer value of this deal combined with how early Liverpool struck has surprised all of us. It’s like the Reds have sent a message through this transfer that they won’t muck around in the window and get the players in as early as possible.
Mac Allister is a versatile midfielder who can play in multiple positions. He is a technically-sound player who is clever on or off the ball, can score goals and create chances along with a high-level work rate.
The 24-year-old is like a player who would seamlessly fit into the system Jurgen Klopp plays at Anfield. The flexible nature of his game will be a benefit to the manager.
The World Cup winner even at a young-ish age would bring a lot of experience and a winning mentality to the team. There is a reason why he played all the high-pressure games for Argentina in Qatar.
