Liverpool ‘hot candidates’ to land Bayern’s Benjamin Pavard
The Reds could oversee a French overhaul at the club over the summer as we see ourselves linked with Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram. To add to that, Liverpool are ‘hot candidates’ to land 2018 World Cup winner Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich as well.
SportBILD’s Christian Falk informed CaughtOffside in his exclusive Fact Files column via Liverpool ECHO that Benjamin Pavard has asked Bayern to let him leave the Bavarian club this summer and the Reds are ‘hot candidates’ to land him.
“Benjamin Pavard has informed the club that he wants to move in the summer. His agents are already talking to other clubs. Among them, Liverpool is now a hot candidate. Previously, Chelsea and Barcelona were already known to be interested, as well as Italian clubs AC and Inter Milan.”
Liverpool’s new style of play, with Trent Alexander-Arnold trusted to play as an inverted full-back, and at times, fully in midfield as well, the Reds could certainly do with the services of someone like Pavard, who excels in more than just one department.
Pavard’s versatility allows him to play as a right-back and also, a centre-back very well, and moving ahead, it almost seems like Liverpool could shift to a back-three formation to make room for Trent’s creativity from midfield.
Pavard to the Reds?
Moreover, the fact that the Reds’ recruiters are already in talks with Pavard’s representatives is a further indication of the fact that Liverpool’s interest in the player is genuine and are exploring an opportunity to land him at Anfield.
The next steps would ideally be accelerating the level of talks to eliminate interest from other interested parties, as Falk mentioned. The likes of Chelsea, Barcelona and AC Milan all show interest, and even though we are supposedly leading the race at the moment, it is important to remain in the front and not let any other club have a sniff of the situation.
A serial winner like Pavard would add much-needed depth to the Reds lineup and also bring in a substantial amount of experience which could surely help Liverpool on all possible fronts.
The 27-year-old Frenchman has only one year left on his contract at Bayern (Transfermarkt) and this could be the last opportunity for the club to cash in any sort of figure for him, or risk losing him for free next year.
