Liverpool Transfer News: Preston North End keen on Calvin Ramsay loan move

Championship side Preston North End show interest in securing the loan services of Liverpool FC’s young right-back, Calvin Ramsay, for the upcoming season.

Calvin Ramsay, who joined Liverpool last summer from Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen, has endured a challenging debut campaign due to injuries. ECHO notes that the Reds could remain open to this move.

The 19-year-old defender’s first season at Liverpool remained marred by a serious back injury, which required an extended period of recovery. He made his senior debut for the Reds in November, featuring as a late substitute in a Champions League group stage victory over Napoli. Shortly after, Ramsay earned his first start for Jurgen Klopp’s side in a League Cup match against Derby County.

Preston North End, under the stewardship of manager Frankie McAvoy, is keen to bolster their squad for the upcoming campaign, and Ramsay’s loan move could certainly provide him with valuable playing time and experience at a competitive level instead of being second fiddle to Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Ramsay to Preston?

A loan spell at Preston would offer Ramsay the opportunity to further develop his skills and adapt to the demands of professional football. Regular game time in the Championship would aid his progression and provide him with valuable exposure to a higher standard of play.

For Liverpool, loaning Ramsay to Preston would surely be a mutually beneficial arrangement. It would enable the young defender to gain valuable experience and potentially accelerate his development, while Liverpool could closely monitor his progress and assess his readiness for future first-team opportunities.

Sepp van den Berg had a successful time at Preston on loan from Liverpool, and we could hope the same for young Ramsay as well.

Klopp has a history of nurturing young talents and providing them with pathways to first-team football when they are deemed ready. Sending Ramsay out on loan would align with this philosophy and also ensure that he continues his development in a competitive environment.

As the transfer window progresses, only time will tell whether Preston North End can secure Ramsay’s loan move and ensure that the player grows as a professional there. He was signed with the hopes of being a smart replacement for Neco Williams but it seems he needs more time to reach that level.
