Inter Milan set steep asking price for Liverpool target Nicolo Barella
In a major development in terms of transfer speculation, Inter Milan set their asking price for Liverpool target Nicolo Barella who is also subject to transfer interest from Newcastle United and Chelsea.
According to Fichajes via ECHO, Inter want £80m for the 26-year-old Italian international. Barella as a Liverpool transfer target gained initial traction last summer, as the Reds, like this time around, needed midfielders last summer as well.
This time around though, the need for midfielders is greater. The departure of a number of players means that the Reds are slim in the midfield department. Even though we got on board Alexis Mac Allister, we need other players around him who complement his style of play.
£80m for a player like Barella is more or less a good deal but Liverpool’s history of negotiations and shrewdness in the transfer target could mean that the Reds could get a cheaper deal. A box-to-box like the former Cagliari man fits the Liverpool system like a glove.
Barella to the Reds?
His range of passing and the factor of leadership also comes in. Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are not the same players they were a few seasons ago, and we could surely do with some refreshments in the middle of the park.
However, Liverpool pulled out of the race for Jude Bellingham citing monetary reasons as the main issue, and that episode could repeat in the case of Barella as well. That is why, we should make sure that the clubs agree on a fee sooner than later.
His deal with Inter lasts until 2026 (Transfermarkt) and hopefully, he joins Liverpool over league rivals Chelsea and Newcastle, who also share an interest in the player.
