Jurgen Klopp told to sign 26-year-old Barcelona star for Liverpool

Jose Enrique tells Jurgen Klopp to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona for Liverpool

The departure of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner has created an opportunity for Jurgen Klopp to bring in fresh talent.

Among the names that have emerged, one player stands out as a game-changer for the Reds is Frenkie de Jong. The player saw himself linked with a move to Liverpool last summer fits as the perfect fit for the club as per Jose Enquire and here is what the Spaniard told his Youtube channel via ECHO about the same:

“For me, it could be many options, but a number eight is what we (Liverpool) need the most. Obviously, Jude Bellingham is not available anymore. It would be Frenkie De Jong and, for Newcastle, it would be Mane.”

Even though the player could really help transform the midfield situation at Liverpool, a lot depends on whether or not De Jong wishes to move from Catalonia, wherein they recently secured the league title no more than a month ago.

While Manchester United led the race to sign him for the longest time, a deal could obviously not materialise at that point in time, but Guardian has it that Liverpool also did not stand far behind in their own attempts to land the former Ajax man.

De Jong to the Reds?

One of the key strengths De Jong possesses is his versatility. He is comfortable playing as a holding midfielder, a box-to-box engine, and also in an advanced creative role. This adaptability would surely allow Klopp to experiment with different formations and tactics.

Furthermore, the 26-year-old’s playing style perfectly aligns with Liverpool’s philosophy. His work rate, pressing abilities, and intelligence off the ball make him an excellent fit for Klopp’s high-energy, gegenpressing system.

He has the tenacity to win back possession quickly, while his composure on the ball and vision enables him to initiate rapid counterattacks.

As the transfer saga unfolds, the prospect of Frenkie de Jong donning the famous Liverpool jersey goes bleak by the day as it is surely tough to see him change his decision of wanting to remain at Barca so late.

The Reds are surely in need of depth in the midfield, and while there is absolutely no arguing that a player of De Jong’s calibre could change the situation and improve the midfield two-fold, the wishes of the player also matter a lot here, and we can do absolutely nothing if he wishes to stay put at Barca.
