Liverpool beat Manchester City to the signing of Micky van de Ven

In what is significant transfer news, Liverpool beat Manchester City to the signing of 22-year-old Dutch international Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg.

That is according to Spanish outlet El Nacional via liverpool.com as they mention Liverpool agreeing to pay a sum of £26m to the Bundesliga side to then discuss personal terms with the player.

Moreover, the player also wants a move from the German top tier and ‘said yes’ to a move to Anfield. With Liverpool’s defensive struggles more or less clearly visible throughout the previous campaign, this revelation comes as an extremely positive piece of transfer news.

With Liverpool lurking in the transfer window for a left-sided centre-back, the potential addition of Van de Ven to the lineup could certainly be extremely favourable for the Reds in terms of a squad rebuild.

The existing centre-backs bar Ibrahima Konate have all shown signs of a drop in performance levels and added competition might just be the thing to push them back to their best.

With Liverpool likely to change their formations from next season to accommodate Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield, the addition of a strong centre-back could surely result in positive results for the Reds.

The Dutchman’s potential addition to Liverpool could mean that he would reunite with Jorg Schmadtke, who was among the reasons for Van de Ven to join Wolfsburg in the first place.

At just 22 years of age, van de Ven has already showcased immense maturity and composure beyond his years. His positioning, reading of the game, and ability to make crucial interceptions have impressed scouts across Europe.
