Falk says Liverpool hold the edge in the race to sign 22-year-old Bayern Muich target

Liverpool ‘hold the edge’ in the race to sign Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven

Excitement is brewing among Liverpool fans as reports suggest that the club has the ‘edge’ in the race to secure the signature of Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven.

The talented 22-year-old has caught the attention of several top clubs, including Bayern Munich, but it is Liverpool who seem to have an advantage in the pursuit. BILD’s Christian Falk via Caught Offside (Subscription Required) talked about how the Reds lead the race to get Van de Ven

on board.

The connection between van de Ven and Liverpool lies in the form of Jorg Schmadtke, the club’s newly appointed sporting director. Schmadtke was the key figure responsible for bringing the Dutch defender to Wolfsburg in 2021, making him familiar with his qualities and potential.

Van de Ven has showcased his abilities as a promising centre-back, impressing with his defensive prowess, composure on the ball, and also, his ability to read the game.

These qualities surely align perfectly with Liverpool’s style of play under Jurgen Klopp, which emphasizes a high defensive line and the ability to initiate attacks from the back.

While competition from Bayern Munich adds to the intrigue surrounding Van de Ven’s future, the presence of Schmadtke at Liverpool could sway the balance in favour of the Reds. As fans, we can only hope that this advantage translates into a successful acquisition of Van de Ven.

His arrival would surely bolster Liverpool’s defensive options and provide healthy competition for places within the squad.

Moreover, his young age presents the opportunity for him to develop under the guidance of Klopp and the experienced defenders already at the club.
