“We need more reliable players”- Pundit urges Liverpool to sell Thiago

Jose Enrique urges Liverpool to sell Thiago Alcantara

Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has raised eyebrows by suggesting that Liverpool should consider selling midfielder Thiago Alcantara if a reasonable offer comes in. Thiago’s third season at Anfield remained marred by a hip injury that kept him sidelined for a significant portion, preventing him from making a lasting impact.

Enrique, while acknowledging Thiago‘s talent, has expressed concerns about his injury record and the need for more reliable players at Liverpool. Here is what Jose told his Instagram followers via ECHO:

“I love him as a player. But I believe if an offer comes in for him, we (Liverpool) should take it. He is a top player but, most of the time, he is injured. We need more reliable players.”

The 2022-23 season was a challenging one for Thiago Alcantara. He suffered a hip injury that sidelined him for most of the season, and Jurgen Klopp was unable to start him after Liverpool’s defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in February.

Unfortunately, Thiago’s struggles to find his rhythm and make a consistent impact mirrored Liverpool’s overall mood during the entirety of last season as our failure to find consistency early on meant we were only good enough for a Europa League finish.

Liverpool’s management and coaching staff face a crucial decision regarding Thiago’s future at Anfield. On one hand, Thiago’s technical abilities and experience are invaluable assets, evident in his performances for Bayern Munich and the Spanish national team over the last few years.

To Keep or Sell Thiago?

However, his injury struggles raise concerns about his long-term availability and consistency. Even with those issues, at any given point, an injury-free Thiago is by far the Reds’ most technically gifted midfielder who is world-class whenever available.

Having said that, Klopp’s system relies on a high-intensity, demanding style of play that necessitates a squad with players who can consistently deliver and remain fit throughout the season. The absence of such reliability can certainly disrupt the team’s rhythm and hinder their progress.

Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara is a magician on the ball.

The debate surrounding Thiago Alcantara’s future at Liverpool is an intriguing one. While he possesses undeniable talent, his injury struggles have raised doubts about his long-term reliability.

Enrique’s recommendation to consider selling Thiago if a reasonable offer arises highlights the need for dependable players within the squad. Liverpool’s decision-makers face the challenge of balancing Thiago’s abilities with the demands of a high-intensity system.

Ultimately, the final verdict on Thiago’s future will surely depend on the club’s assessment of his injury record and their ambition to build a squad of consistent performers.
