Ligue 1 side Lecce’s young left-back Patrick Dorgu stands subject to a move to Liverpool and the Reds now apparently remain ready to get the Dane on board at Anfield.
That is according to Italian outlet Calciomercato via ECHO who claim that the Reds’ scouts have monitored the U19 international for quite a while now. The 18-year-old even though primarily plays as a left-back, can play on the left side of midfield as well.
Liverpool at the moment, stand blessed with two extremely capable left-backs in Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas. Robbo remains our first choice while Tsimi has been extremely handy and impressive whenever opportunities have come to him.
While both our left-backs are quite young, having squad options can never go wrong. There is still loads to learn for Dorgu, who’s just 18. Robbo and Tsimikas have been too good to find replacements so early.
Having said that, getting on board a player like Dorgu should go well with the ethos of the club which lies in the development of young talents into world-class athletes. Liverpool has been the catalyst for so many great talents to find their top-class selves.
The likes of Robbo himself, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Virgil van Dijk among others were all top talents and the move to Liverpool only went on to mould them all into the world-class footballers they are today.
To conclude, Liverpool’s interest in Dorgu signifies their belief in his talent and their intention to nurture his development within the club’s renowned academy system.
Dorgu’s arrival would add healthy competition within the youth squad and provide cover and support for the existing left-back options as well.
Hopefully, we get on board some midfielders as well because at the moment, we are slim in that department and could surely do with some additional reinforcements in the middle of the park.
