As per the BBC, Arsenal have an offer of something around £30m to sign Ajax defender Jurrien Timber during the summer window.
A few days ago, Timber admitted that he could be on the move away from Ajax this summer. At the time, Liverpool and Manchester United were in the race to sign the Dutchman.
But, coming back to the report from the BBC, Arsenal are confident in agreeing personal terms with the player. The transfer will be made as long as the fee is agreed.
The 22-year-old is a versatile defender who can play as a centre-back in a back three or a back four and has played as a right-back as well.
Although still young, the Dutch international is an experienced player who has 15 caps for the national team, including representing them in the World Cup and has been a part of the Ajax team that won the Eredivisie in 2021 and 2022.
It is pretty surprising to know that despite the apparent quality and experience of a young player, Liverpool have not pushed on with their attempt to sign him this summer.
Instead, we are seeing Arsenal taking centre-stage and making the first moves to get him. The fact that the Gunners are confident about the deal, tells us that they have got the player side of things covered.
Coming back to Liverpool, we know that the Reds could do with a defensive addition or two this summer. With the way Trent Alexander-Arnold was used in the latter half of the 2022/23 season, it made sense to go for Timber, a player who can cover Trent at right-back and also be a backup option to Ibrahima Konate.
Let’s still hope that Arsenal fumble this deal and the Reds are there to pounce on the opportunity.
