Manchester United submit second bid for Liverpool target Mason Mount
While there is growing confidence that Liverpool target Mason Mount will end up at Manchester United next season, the Merseysiders still have an outside chance and now have an idea of what to bid in case they decide to rekindle their interest in the Chelsea midfielder.
United’s second bid is worth £50m. The Athletic‘s David Ornstein says the Blues demand a fee of £60m with £5m in add-ons. While this may appear to be a steep price, it is the reality of the market, and the constant need for midfielders means that the prices remain inflated.
Liverpool saw themselves out of the race earlier this week as per James Pearce but things could always change in football, and the Reds could latch onto a United target once again after we got on Cody Gakpo to Merseyside in January.
Liverpool can take notes from United’s bid and form an idea of how much Chelsea want for Mount and form an idea of whether or not the Blues’ demands could be affordable or if there’s a need to look at other targets as well.
What next for Mount?
While Mount will surely add quality, press resistance and attacking ability to any midfield, the Reds will or will not pursue Mount solely on the basis of the demands of his current employers. His contract at Chelsea lasts until 2024 (Transfermarkt).
Ultimately, the decision lies in Mason Mount’s hands. While both Liverpool and Manchester United present enticing options, it will be up to the player to determine his preferred destination.
Factors such as playing time, competitiveness, and the vision of the respective managers will play a crucial role in his decision-making process.
The transfer saga surrounding Mason Mount continues to captivate football fans, particularly those supporting Liverpool and Manchester United. With Manchester United’s second bid for the talented midfielder, the battle between the two rivals intensifies.
