Villarreal CEO talks about Samuel Chukwueze amid Liverpool links
In the quest to bolster their squad for the upcoming season, Liverpool FC has reportedly shown interest in Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze.
The Nigerian international sees himself tentatively linked with a transfer to Anfield, alongside competition from Arsenal, Aston Villa, and West Ham. Chukwueze‘s potential arrival at Liverpool could provide the much-needed natural right-wing backup for the prolific Mohamed Salah.
Villarreal CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles acknowledged Chukwueze’s desire to play for a big club in Europe or the Premier League and here’s what he said via the ECHO:
“It’s true that he’s excited to play for a big club in Europe or in the Premier League. If this option came up, we would sit down and negotiate it. But it will be necessary to see if any beneficial offer arrives for the three parties. In this case, no offer has yet arrived.”
The need for a capable backup on the right flank has become increasingly evident for Liverpool. While Salah has been exceptional for the Reds, there has been a noticeable lack of depth in that position. As the Egyptian star shoulders the heavy burden of leading the attacking line, having additional backup seldom goes wrong.
While there’s no formal offers yet, Liverpool’s interest in Chukwueze suggests that negotiations could potentially be on the horizon. The Reds’ reputation as one of Europe’s elite clubs could play a pivotal role in convincing Villarreal to enter into discussions.
Chukwueze to the Reds?
Chukwueze’s attributes certainly align well with Liverpool’s heavy metal style of play under Jurgen Klopp. His blistering pace, close ball control, and dribbling skills surely make him a genuine threat on the wing, capable of taking on defenders and delivering dangerous crosses into the box.
The acquisition of Chukwueze would not only provide valuable backup for Salah but also inject fresh energy and competition into Liverpool’s attacking unit. Furthermore, it would allow Klopp to rotate his squad effectively, ensuring that key players like Salah and Luis Diaz among others can maintain their performance levels throughout the demanding season.
While Salah currently shows absolutely no signs of slowing down, having a quality backup can never hurt. Moreover, with the Europa League to play as well, youngsters like Chukwueze and others can earn enough game time in the tournament while Mo and the likes of Virgil van Dijk gather some rest.
In any case, Liverpool should ideally be all over the place to get a player like Chukwueze on board as the 24-year-old is surely a potential world-beater.
