Liverpool target Perr Schuurs is now a transfer target of Crystal Palace
According to the Athletic (subscription required), Crystal Palace are exploring a deal to sign Torino defender Perr Schuurs, who is also a Liverpool target.
It is also revealed that because Torino’s asking price for Schuurs is high, Palace signing him would depend on them selling one of their centre-backs – Joachim Andersen or Marc Guehi.
A few weeks ago, Daily Mail reported that Liverpool and Newcastle United will fight over the signature of Schuurs this summer window. It seems like we can add Palace to that list.
The 23-year-old is a former Ajax centre-back who moved to Torino last summer itself but impressed quite a lot of people during his first season in Italy.
The former Netherlands U-21 international made 36 appearances for the Serie A side in the 2022/23 campaign. He is a centre-back who previously played as a defensive midfielder on just a handful of occasions.
Schuurs is a physically and aerially strong defender who reads the game well, can pass the ball with succinct accuracy and is a handful in both boxes.
Liverpool could do by adding a defender or two in the summer window. The likes of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip flapped a lot last season and cannot be relied upon to play key roles next season.
The former is atleast young and can also play at right-back. The latter isn’t getting any younger and has lost a yard of pace as well.
Moreover, if Jurgen Klopp wants to continue playing Trent Alexander-Arnold in the hybrid role, he should sign a centre-back who can sweep the play up at the back and one who can support Ibrahima Konate on the right-hand side.

Schuurs’s attributes fall into the former category. He can come in and be a backup to Virgil van Dijk or play as a left-sided defender with occasional forays forward.
