Napoli enter the race for Liverpool target Gabri Veiga
Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga find himself in the middle of transfer speculation as alongside Liverpool, another club enter the fray to secure his services. Serie A Champions Napoli are also in the running for the 21-year-old Spain U21 international.
Calciomercato via ECHO claim Napoli’s interest in securing the services of Veiga. The player is currently with the U21 national team as they fare their way in the UEFA U21 Euros.
Veiga played 16 minutes in a 3-0 win over Romania, coming on as a substitute for one-time Liverpool target Alex Baena. Speaking of the former, he would surely be a good investment for Liverpool in the long run.
With his on-the-ball skills alongside the ability to take long shots from midfield, Veiga could surely fit the bill at the Reds. While the aspect of physicality in his game might need a little bit of refining, apart from that, he has all the qualities to shine in the Reds’ midfield.
Veiga to the Reds?
Framing it in this way, he plays like Gini Wijnaldum, but much less physical than the former Red. However, he surely isn’t the finished product yet. He will surely learn a lot from the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson if he decides to switch to the Reds.
In 36 league appearances last season, Veiga had 11 goals and four assists to his name. Compare this to Liverpool’s midfield goal contribution from last season. The Reds used 10 midfielders in the Premier League last season and they have a combined count of only eight goals.
Things surely need a change at Liverpool, and hopefully, Veiga brings about just what the Reds need in their quest for more glory albeit not in the immediate future.
However, Napoli’s interest in the player complicates things a certain bit. We need to remain ahead of any competitors and ensure that our priority transfer targets head nowhere but Liverpool.

Liverpool need to get business sorted out as quickly as possible. His impending performances in the UEFA U21 Euros could surely plummet Veiga’s asking price and that is why we should get this over with almost immediately.
