Liverpool opted against signing 23-year-old French defender on a Bosman deal

Liverpool decided against signing Evan Ndicka before he moved to AS Roma

Liverpool recently declined the opportunity to sign Evan Ndicka before the centre-back joined AS Roma earlier this summer.

Ndicka, who previously played for Eintracht Frankfurt, became a free agent during the summer transfer window and ultimately found his new club in Serie A where has the opportunity to shine under a quality manager in Jose Mourinho.

Although Liverpool stood among the clubs initially linked with Ndicka, the ECHO clarified in March that the 23-year-old was not a player the Reds were actively pursuing.

However, as per new updates from Fabrizio Romano on his Here We Go Podcast, he discussed Ndicka, revealing that Liverpool had been “offered” the player but ultimately decided against pursuing a deal.

No Ndicka, No Problem?

Liverpool’s decision not to pursue Ndicka suggests that the club had other priorities in terms of their defensive recruitment and did not see the Frenchman as the right fit for their squad.

The Reds have a strong defensive lineup, including the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip, who are all established centre-back options. While Ndicka is a promising young talent, Liverpool’s depth in that position likely influenced their decision to pass on the opportunity to sign him. However, we still need a left-sided central defender sooner than later.

Liverpool’s transfer strategy typically involves thorough consideration of player profiles, skill sets, and squad requirements, ensuring that they bring in players who can make an immediate impact.

Although Ndicka’s availability may have presented an opportunity, Liverpool’s decision-makers determined that he did not meet their specific needs at this time. As the summer transfer window progresses, Liverpool will continue to explore potential signings that align with their objectives and strengthen their squad in key areas.
